The tone carried by how a text is sent — reply speed, message length, punctuation, capitalization — separate from what it literally says.
Two identical words — "ok" versus "okay!!" — can read completely differently depending on timing and punctuation, because texting strips out the tone of voice and facial expression that would normally carry that information, and people fill the gap with proxies instead: how fast the reply came, how long the message is, whether it ends in a period or nothing at all. None of these proxies are reliable in isolation — a short reply might mean disinterest or might mean someone’s driving — but as patterns over hundreds or thousands of messages, they’re exactly the kind of signal chat statistics are built to surface.
